Lesson 1: Welcome!

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets: 

  • Find your assigned seat

  • Begin to learn student names in our class, especially the names of students near your seat

  • Begin to learn about the procedures and expectations of this class (required materials)

  • Begin community building by working on student personal survey/introduction

Lesson 2: Reflections and Pretest

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets: 

  • Reflect on your first-day experience through the journaling process and discussion

  • Assess/find out what you already know about World History by completing a Pre-Test

Lesson 3: Goals & World History Syllabus

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Reflect on personal goals – via journal and discussion

  • Explain and discuss classroom procedures and expectations (syllabus)

  • Begin community building by working on student personal survey – prepare for introductions

Lesson 4: Introductions & Community Building

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Continue to build positive relationships in our classroom by:

    • Listening/Contributing to “Good Things!”

    • Getting to know each other through small group and large group introductions

 

Lesson 5: Begin Time Travel Review Activity (Stations 1 - 6)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Articulate personal thoughts on what makes an event important in journal (introduce idea of subjectivity in the study of History/ Historiography)

  • Review basic geography and geographic organizers

  • Review basic documentation of time, human systems, and scales of events (basic vocabulary and concepts)

Lesson 6: Geography Review & Meet Your Atlas (Correct Stations 1 - 6)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Review concepts which help us to think and talk about History & Geography

  • Review basic geography and geographic organizers (discover which ones you  need to personally review more on your own)  - 5 Themes of Geography, etc.

  • Review basic social studies vocabulary and concepts used to document/discuss time and historical events

Lesson 7: Time Travel Review Activity Continued (Stations 7 - 16)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through Ancient Chinese Civilization

  • Explain effects of the Agricultural Revolution of the Neolithic Period

  • Evaluate the role of rivers in the development of early civilizations 

  • Identify major characteristics and contributions of Ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Chinese Civilizations (compare and contrast characteristics of two or more civilizations)

  • Identify and explain some key social studies vocabulary (political, social, and religious)

INDEPENDENT REVIEW LESSON ONE: Prehistory Through Agricultrual Revolution of Neolithic Period

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Describe basic patterns of human life in the Paleolithic Age of Prehistory

  • Describe the Agricultural Revolution and explain how it changed human life

  • Compare and contrast human life before and after the Agricultural Revolution of the Neolithic Period 

  • NOTE: This lesson/lecture contains all you need to know about prehistoric human life through the agricultural revolution of the Neolithic Period!

Lesson 8: Review Prehistory Through Ancient Egypt (Correct Stations 7 - 13)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through Ancient Egyptian Civilization

  • Explain effects of the Agricultural Revolution of the Neolithic Period

  • Evaluate the role of rivers in the development of early civilizations 

  • Identify major characteristics and contributions of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Civiliations (compare and contrast characteristics of two or more civilizations)

  • Identify and explain some key social studies vocabulary (political, social, and religious)

INDEPENDENT REVIEW LESSON THREE: Ancient Mesopotamia

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Evaluate the role of rivers in the development of early civilizations (identify some major geographic areas where rivers supported the development of civilizations)

  • Identify major characteristics and contributions of Mesopotamian Civilization (explain the major significance of Mesopotamian civilization in the larger context of world history)

  • Identify and explain basic social studies vocabulary (e.g. polytheism, monotheism, theocracy, empire, etc.)

INDEPENDENT REVIEW LESSON TWO: Rise & Characteristics of Civilization

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Explain how the Agricultural Revolution of the Neolithic Period made the birth of civilization possible

  • Identify and explain the basic characteristics of all civilizations

INDEPENDENT REVIEW LESSON FOUR: Ancient Egypt

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify and explain major characteristics and contributions of ancient Egyptian civilization

  • Compare and contrast ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations – create thinking map and compose paragraph (esp. evaluate role of rivers)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

INDEPENDENT REVIEW LESSON SIX: Ancient India & Ancient Trade

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify and explain some major characteristics of ancient Indian civilization 

  • Continue to investigate and explain the role of rivers in the development of early civilizations – begin to compare and contrast ancient river civilizations

Lesson 9: Review Ancient China & Confucianism (Correct Stations 14 - 16)

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through Ancient China

  • Evaluate the role of rivers in the development of early civilizations 

  • Identify major characteristics and contributions of Ancient China (esp. Confucianism)

  • Identify and explain some key social studies vocabulary (political, social, and religious)

  • Continue to identify major characteristics and contributions of ancient/classical civilizations

  • Identify and explain some key social studies vocabulary (political, social, and religious)

Lesson 12: Class Test Review - Correct Test Review Questions PART ONE

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Get Ready for Unit I Test:

  • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through the Chinese Qin Dynasty

  • Self-Assess understanding on test material

Lesson 13: Formative Assessment & Atlas Activities

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Compare and contrast ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt (Thinking Map, Thesis Statement & Paragraph – part of formative assessment)

  • Analyze and evaluate data in the forms of charts, maps, and graphs using the atlas and atlas activity packet

Lesson 14: Correct Stations 17 - 27

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through the Classical Gupta Empire in India

  • Focus on major characteristics and contributions of major civilizations such as the Han Dynasty of China & Gupta Empire of India

  • Review major characteristics of major world religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, & Judaism) and then compare and contrast them

Lesson 15: Test Review Part TWO

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Get Ready for Unit I Test:

    • Review major developments in human history from prehistory through the Classical Gupta Period in India

    • Self-Assess understanding on test material

  • Identify and explain origins and major characteristics of the major world religion: Hinduism

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify and explain some major characteristics of ancient Indian civilization

Lesson 16: Ancient Greece & the Hellenistic World

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify and describe major characteristics of Classical Greece

  • Compare and contrast different government forms of the Classical Greek Poleis (esp. Athens and Sparta)

  • Explain the origins and impact of Hellenistic Culture

  • Begin to discover and evaluate the Classical Greek legacy on today’s world

Lesson 17: Ancient Rome

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify major characteristics and contributions of the Roman Republic & Roman Empire

Lesson 18: Christianity Spreads in the Roman Empire

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Explain the cause of the rapid and wide-spread expansion of Christianity in the Roman Empire

  • Identify major characteristics of the Christian religion

Lesson 19: The Fall of the Western Roman Empire & the Greco-Roman Legacy

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify and explain the causes of the collapse of the Western Roman Empire

  • Evaluate the Greco-Roman legacy by finding examples in today’s world

Lesson 20: UNIT ONE TEST

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Assess student mastery of Unit I Content: Major developments in human history from the rise of civilization through the Roman Empire & the spread of Christianity

Lesson 21: Formative Review of Unit I Test, SAT Practice Readings, & Practice Map Quiz

Purpose of Lesson/Learning Targets:

  • Identify errors made on Unit One Test and make corrections – re-teach/re-learn

  • Prepare for SAT by completing SAT Practice Readings which correspond to Unit One content

  • Practice geography items in preparation for first official geography quiz
